World PvP: Your Priest Can Dominate

Even if your Priest has avoided it in the past, Player versus Player (PvP) combat is in their future. WotLK has brought more advanced, real time battles to the game.

The first real time PvP battle zone is Lake Wintergrasp. There players go at it on the live server to earn points they can use to buy special items.

With Lake Wintergrasp’s high popularity, and the increasing amount of PvP combat in other popular games, you’ll surely see more even more PvP in WoW in the future. Here’s what you need to know to handle your Priest in this new world:

Playing a Priest class character in World of Warcraft PvP is something of a paradox. Priest can be extremely capable and flexible, or very weak and helpless, based on how you play them. With a wide variety of heals and massive amounts of mana, they can be dangerous opponents and a pain to kill. But with no armor at all, and very little health, a smart oppontent can quickly take down a careless or unskilled Priest. To win PvP battles as a Priest requires smart preparation and a good understanding of how to hurt your enemies with indirect damage. Playing a Priest is challenging, but rewarding.

By default, Priests are the healers in any player versus player group battles. But they don’t have to be. Holy and Discipline Priests are very useful in group PvP in the arena and battlegrounds, where they buff and debuff characters generally filling the classic healer role. Then there are the Shadow Priests. Armed with potent DPS (Damage Per Second) attacks, they can not only cause real harm to the enemy, but they can still do some healing for their allies. Whether your Priest primarly aids the party, or primarily goes out to do damage to the enemy depends on how you develop and play the class.

A Priest can be extremely effective against many classes – they can crowd control with Fear and deal out DoTs (Damage Over Time) spells, while dispelling nearly anything the opposing casters put up. But against other classes, a Priest without the right strategies is virtually defenseless. For example, an unskilled Priest has little hope of survival against a Rogue.

This is why a leading Priest PvP Guide is imperative. A great guide will not only show you strategies and tactics your Priest can use against each class, it will give you a better idea of how each other class is likely to attact your Priest. A good Priest PvP Guide provides more than just a few standard strategies for Priests. It should show how to take on all of the other classes in solo combat. And it should show how the Priest, in each of its three specs (Holy, Discipline, and Shadow), can best fit into a 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 team.

Because a quality PvP Guide incorporates the hard-earned experience of Priests with a vast amount of experience, it will contain information that you’re unlikely to discover on your own. It will teach you the most important things to know, saving you vast amounts of time and energy you would otherwise spend trying to discover a Priest’s combat secrets on your own.
