I also made one with the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (3.2ghz) but had to use a ATI Radeon HD 4870 PCIe instead.

There was also the option of the Phenom II X4 945 but the difference was hardly worth the comparison.

Which one out of these two. I want to save money, rememer the 955 version I have done is EXACTLY the same with the same MOBO and everything it just uses a Radeon 4870 1gb instead of a 4890 because the 955 cost more I had to slice a bit off the price.

Thanks

I’ll choose either between the Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition with 1GB 4890 MAYBE = £990 (not sure yet, so pick between these 3 >>>)

- The Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (3.2GHz) with 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4870 = £965
- The X3 720 (Triple Core) Black Edition (2.8GHz) with 1GB ATI Radon HD 4890 = £905
- or the Phenom II X4 820 (2.6GHz) with 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4890 = £930

The combo between clock speeds and the variation of the the graphic cards are what alters price. I know Crysis is made for a Quad Core but I’m willing to overlook that, but hopefully still play it on either the triple or quad.

I seriously need help making a system for less than £965 because I need to buy other things.

The other components are as "future proof" as I could make it. I didn’t pick intel coz the price is too high. I chose the best mobo possible. The DDR3, I got blu-ray and HD DVD. I got a nice case. I spend £50 on air cooling. I even notched up the HDD space to 640gb from 500gb.

What is the best balance out of those 3. I very much doubt I’ll go with the 955 Black Edition AND the 4890. That combo is pushing it too far.

Peace – Oh I also intend on making this system last (in terms of RAM and graphic card upgrades) for 3-4 years minimum in gaming, and 5-6 years regular ordinary use. I may drop the HDD space back to 500GB, but I’m worri

  1. I’m not a tech wizard, but was in a very similar situation a few weeks ago. I built a very similar computer a few weeks ago.

It looks like your on a budget like the rest of us and are going through the options of a website that will build you a computer. These people will inevitably take a cut, so your getting overcharged.

You mentioned wanting to be able to play cyrsis. That game is going to require at least 1 good graphics card. So of those options I’d go with the 4890 and the quad core.

I would build my own from a variety of reputable online or store based dealers. Newegg, tigerdirect, frys, best buy, ect.

From newegg you could build a SUPERIOR computer for less.

Your British so I’ll calculate in dollars and convert to pounds.

    cpu phenom 955 ($250) (don’t compromise!)

mobo Gigabyte MA790XT-Ud4p ($120) or some asus mobo in the 120 130 range. Look for 1600 ram and crossfire supported.

graphics cards go with two 4870’s (300)

    some 750-800 watt psu (130)

    case (some 120 dollar case)

Some ($40) cooler (hear dark knight is great)

    two 500GD hdds or 3 250Gb hdd’s in raid array (200)

RAM id go with 8Gb (1600 speed) (200)

    Vista with 7 upgarde (140?)

    thats ($1500) or 915 pounds

That with the faster processor faster memory raid array and dual graphics cards for the same price this setup will woop any of those builds above.

Woops you’ll need a raid controller if you want to have a raid setup. I didn’t add that to price. If you want to simplify things and reduce cost go with 1 fast hdd. That will know off 80 pounds.

I know your thinking that I can’t build my own computer.. thats too hard. I assure you that it was painless the hardest part was forcing the heatsink on the processor. The my Gigabyte mobo came with an excellent visual manual. It is very doable and will save you hundreds of pounds.
