Actually Sony has streamlined manufacturing quite a bit and it’s getting cheaper to produce the PS3s. What Sony has said regarding price drops is true – they don’t have any price drops planned for THIS YEAR.
There will be a price drop next year, I’ll be extremely surprised if there isn’t. It’s hard to say when though. Sony isn’t dropping their prices for the holiday season because they feel like they can rely on their huge line up of games to counter the difference in price between the Wii and 360.
If 360 sales hold up I suspect we’ll see a price drop between March and June. If 360 sales slow down and the PS3 is able to compete with it’s current price, it will probably be closer to next Fall/Autumn similar to what MS did this year in order to boost sales.
