Roughly how many Blu-Ray movies are on double-layer disks?
Hey guys and gals,
I’m looking at purchasing a Blu-ray burner, but first I would like to know roughly what percentage of new movies require a double-layer disk. A blank DL disk is quite expensive and therefore cost prohibitive, I’d be better off buying a second copy of the movie. (Inb4 omg pirate…I travel a lot and keep copies of my movies with me so I don’t lose/damage the original)

The vast majority of new Blu-ray titles are all on DL Blu-ray media discs.
Basically any new movie or any movie that has an advanced/HD auido or uncompressed audio on the disc will be a DL disc. Many of the old and original Blu-ray discs that only had regulary dolby 5.1 were on single layer.
Also some of the really quick, bad transfer to Hi-def movies are only single layer. Usually the ones you see in the bargin bins for $10-$15.
