If your TV does 720p chances are it will also do 1080i.

You will need to make sure you are hooked up via HDMI cable then go into your PS3s "Display Settings" and from there you will be able to adjust the Video Output by checking of all the resolutions your TV has.

I have a 1080p Bravia XBR in my living room hooked up to my PS3 and the PS3 will output in whatever resolution I tell it to. I also have a smaller 32" Bravia in my bedroom that does 720p/1080i hooked up to a standard Sony Blu Ray player and it will output in 720p and 1080i as long as I adjust the settings; you should be able to do the same thing.

Also, check the back of the Blu Ray movies box, some of them will actually have alternative resolutions. Buying Blu Rays that also contain 1080i will help your cause.

As for the article, its probably dated and written by someone who supported HD=DVD (which failed) and was biased. Blu Ray was and is the superior media.

Just tinker around with the settings in the PS3 and Tv and get a HDMI cable.
