Optical vs. HDMI?

I’m looking at a reciever that only has optical inputs (no HDMI) I really like the reciever and the sound it has. I use optical now, but i’m thinking of upgrading to blu-ray and hd-dvd. Should I look for another reciever? Its for a medium/small room, and I don’t turn it up much. I just don’t want to buy it and find out I can’t use some feature cuz my reciever doesn’t take HDMI.

You will be fine using optical, for now. Blu Ray and HD-DVD use, over the HDMI output, a "lossless" format called DTS-HD and Dolby HD. No receiver in a typical consumer price range as of yet has these decoders. Feel free to get the best that digital video has to offer and upgrade the receiver later.
