My new toshiba hd dvd a2 player doesn’t have 5.1 surround. Is the sound still close enought to 5.1?
I can’t buy a new reciver for now so will this hd dvd player still sound good?

Analog stereo out is fine for most people. Audio quality depends more on the amp and speakers when using a digital source.
Most TVs offer poor audio quality with minimal bass.
Pick up a new amp/ receiver when you can to enjoy 5.1 sound.
