Do I need to replace the cable or does it really matter? Just wondering how much if any it really affects the picture quality when using a blu-ray dvd player. I have monster cable for TV but only basic 1.1 cable for the dvd player.

No it won't make a difference for your setup (unless your tv supports "deep color" and then it is only a slight difference).
If your bluray player is a PS3 under display settings set "RGB full Range" to FUll and "Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White to On"
The different versions of HDMI cable upogrraded the frequencies that could be sent to through the cable. 1080P @60hz is easily supported on the first version and most sound (bitstream at really high qualities like those in 22.2 theater sound are not supported by HDMI cables).
The Monstercable you bought was a waste of money though because the digital signal in HDMI is either 100% or nothing. Interference through the cable doesn't cause alterations on the screen or sound.
