Is the ps3 as good of a blu ray player as standalone devices?

I'm interested in getting a ps3 for it's games and blu ray player. I just bought a new samsung 50inch plasma that I think would look really nice with a hi def movie player like that one. Thanks for the help!

  1. PS3 is a great blu ray player.

    However, if you are going to buy it, make sure it do use it for the gaming. Watching a blu ray movie on a ps3 uses 3x the amount of power than on a regular blu ray player.

    So if you're just in the market for a player, just get a regular one. They all play movies the same, the only differences are added functionalities on some.
