How is the next gen DVD format war a war at all, when both the companies are launching each of their players?
Sony and Toshiba, both launching their players, Blu-Ray player and HD DVD player, respectively, to the market for the consumers to decide to choose and pick – with a multitude of companies for each backing them – and in most cases, backing both simultaneously – is what it is like!
Then, how is it a war, since both the formats are going to be out in the open – or in fact, already out in the open!
In the case of VHS vs. Betamax, VHS clearly was the select result – and Betamax wasn’t there! But in this case, since one movie studio would launch its movie in one particular format, and other movie studio launching its movie in other (rival) format, and hence both are in the market – if the customer wants both those particular movies, it implies both formats are here to stay? – or at least till the we shift to the next gen level (for e.g. HVD)
But how is it then a war to select only ONE format finally? No, it isn’t – cuz both would be selected as per the required game/movie, etc. YOU SEE
Yes obviously THE MARKET WILL DECIDE – but "how is it a format war" such that only one format would come out on top in the end. Don’t you see my point – since for e.g. The Movie LIAR LIAR would be available in one of the two rival formats, I would have to decide my purchase on the game or the movie – and then see which format is it available in – Paramount Pictures might support HD DVD and (if that is the LIAR LIAR movie studio) I would have to go with HD DVD cd and player if I want to watch LIAR LIAR – you see?
