How do I adjust my ps3 settings to play blu-ray movies with hdmi cables?

I just bought HDMI cables and the games work fine, but when I went to play The Dark Knight on blu-ray I got a message saying an incompatible video signal has been received check video output settings?I don’t know how to fix it. My Ps3 is running at 1080i not 1080p, maybe thats the problem?
