Does anyone think that HD-DVD and blu-ray formats are way ahead of their time?

How long has it been since DVDs were considered a normal thing to have 5, maybe 7 years? I think that technology is moving too quick and much of the infrastructure to support it isn’t there. Many common people just bought their first DVD player a few years back and now you want them to purchase some 0-0 high def. DVD player just because it looks somewhat better? I think not. I seriously doubt this will be a normal format for at least a few years to come.
See I disagree with the fact that it is being shoved down our throats. With each technology the adaptation time gets shorter and shorter because we are moving at light speed with it. I’m not old enough to know much about A-trac tapes, but weren’t they considered commonplace for a few decades after they were invented? Tape decks in cars in the late 70′s on the other hand were a staple for less than 20 years. About the mid-90′s CD players became cheaper and were put into cars. Now only the most bargain basement new car would think of not having a CD player standard. You can bet if HD-DVD format goes over well that it will be even easier to reformat music to be HD and that will be the next thing they install on high end vehicles. My point is we may not be having the technology forced down our throat, but certain things are being made into obsoletion so quickly we can’t even catch our breath from the previous "innovation."

You bet, just see how many people are quallified to work on your TV if it goes out, and if they are it’s about a arm and leg charge to get it fixed, the technology is great but service on these and the new plasmas are few and far between.
