I have an HD DVD player, but the HD DVDs won’t play on it. Do I need an HD TV as well? Or is there something else, like a special cord, that I can get?

No, you don’t need an HDTV to play HD DVDs.
The composite (red/white/yellow) output of the HD DVD player is always down converted to the old analog type signal.
So you should be able to watch the HD DVD using that connection.
Possible causes of your problem: —————————————————–
Using component outputs when it is set (in menu) to non-480i resolution. ( 720p, 1080i, 1080p)
Trying to play Blu-Ray disk in HD DVD player.
