Can my PC play Blu-Ray discs already or is there more to it than that?
Hey there!
Now I’m going to go down to a store tomorrow and buy "Sleeping Beauty" on both DVD and Blu-Ray, in case we ever get a Blu-Ray player. I was talking to a few family members about it and Dad curiously asked "Does Blu-Ray play on your PC or something?" and I thought that I should look into it.
I have no Blu-Ray discs at the moment so I couldn’t really experiment with them and see if they work but I go to the control panel of my PC and on the AutoPlay section, it mentions Blu-Ray *and* even HD-DVD! But it confuses me as from there, it might be a clue as to what my PC may be capable of, but I just thought I had a DVD drive and also, I obviously can’t check which colour the laser that scan each CD or DVD of any kind because that would mean having to rip out my computer.
So I’m just wondering, does the fact that the AutoPlay settings mentions Blu-Ray mean that the PC can definitely play Blu-Ray once the disc is in the drive or do I need way more evidence on this to understand weather or not my PC can play Blu-Ray or not?
Thanks very much and please, if you reply with an answer, please explain in layman’s terms. I really don’t know much about technology compared to the people who know it the best. ^^;;;

P.S. And if it helps, my computer has a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor. Again, please explain your answer in layman’s terms, I only copied that from my system properties. ^^;

You need a Blu-Ray drive. these can be expensive and only appear on a few top of the range PC’s. So you would have to have specifiaclaly bought a PC with a Blu-Ray player in it.
It appears in the Autoplay menu on all Vista PC’s, because Vista support’s Blu-Ray and HD-DVD playback (XP doesn’t out of the box).
On the front of your disc drive it should be labelled with BD with a kinda swoosh around it for the Blu-Ray logo. You also need a HDCP complaint graphics card and monitor, but most modern ones are, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
