WoW Skinning Guide
Skinning the hides of beasts you’ve slain can then be used in Leatherworking and recipes for Blacksmithing, Engineering and Tailoring. In the following WoW Skinning guide you’ll get a good intro into skinning as your primary profession.
Skinning is one of the best gathering professions in Warcraft and lets you skin what you and even others have killed. Usually you’ll be able to find a skinning trainer near a leatherworker. You can always ask one of the guards for help finding a trainer. Other than finding a trainer the only thing you’ll need is a skinning knife which can be bought from merchants that sell profession related things. WoW Skinning Guide: List of skinning ranks and their associated skill levels.
- Apprentice: Levels 1-75
- Journeyman: Levels 50-150
- Expert: Levels 125-225
- Artisan: Levels 200-300
- Master: Levels 300-375
Some secondary professions are better than others when it comes to Skinning. One profitable strategy is to combine skinning with another gathering type profession like Herbalism. Obviously the best complimenting profession would be Leatherworking. On the other hand some professions, Alchemy for instance, won’t add anything valuble when combined with skinning.
Remember that not every corpse can be skinned. To find out if something can be skinned just hover over the corpse. It’s important to fully loot a corpse before you begin skinning it. As far as skinning things that have been killed by others, just make sure they’ve left the corpse before you jump in to skin it.
Hovering over the dead beast will show you a particular color code if it’s something that can be skinned. The color will reveal not only whether your skill level is high enough to skin it but also whether or not it will help you level up even more. The following list reveal what these various color codes actually tell you.
- Red: You can’t skin it at your level.
- Orange: This means it’ll be hard for you to skin, but if you manage to do it, it’ll probably increase your skill level.
- Yellow: These are moderately difficult to skin with a moderate chance of helping you level up your skill.
- Green: Although these are easy to skin they also probably won’t help you level up your profession.
- Gray: These are easy to skin but won’t help you level up skinning at all.
