WoW Hunters & Pets
Pets are very important part of the Hunter class as they are pure dps class and a choice of a pet can make a world of difference. So when you choose a pet, choose him wisely!. Hunters pets can be divided into groups based on their abilities: Tenacity, Cunning and Ferocity. Click here for more on Hunter Pets
Cunning pets
Utility, flexibility and mobility are trades of cunning pets which makes them excellent choice for PvP encounters. This group mainly consists of spiders, bats, birds of prey, sillithids, chimeras, ravagers etc. Spiders are able to immobilize targets while bats can stun them with their special abilities so make sure to note these when making a choice. Kiting is the basic mechanic for any PvP hunter and this is where spiders immobilize effect comes into play. Spending talents in the tree will further upgrade your pet with more stamina, speed, survivability or even with a unique ability like roar of sacrifice which allows pets to absorb 30% of incoming damage to you.
- Web – immobilize effect skill from spiders.
- Sonic screech – is the bats ability that can stun a player for up to 2 seconds
Ferocity pet group
These types of pets are focused on dealing more damage and boosting your own damage as well. They are mostly used in PvE aspect of the game like raids and dungeons, but sometimes are also used in PvP to give a nice niche to your group set up. Pets that have ferocity talent trees are: wolves, core hounds, moths, cats, raptors and others. Special abilities of ferocity pets do increased damage to the target or in some cases boost your own dps. Click here for more on Hunter Pet Guide
Some hunters tend to use Core Hounds for PvP as their debuff from lava breath will decrease the casting speed of the victim for 25%. Well timed lava breath on enemy healer combined with burst damage on a target can sometimes win matches. Wolf’s special ability called Furious howl will boost your dps by 320 attack power for 20 seconds with 40 second cool down. Ferocity talent tree is built around boosting survivability and damage output of your pet.
Tenacity pet group
Tenacity pets are not designed for maximum damage or mobility / utility but for tanking, their talent tree will boost your pet’s survivability and health. Some of their special abilities are made so they will take less damage and keep the enemies focused on them rather than on a hunter. Not many tenacity pets are seen in PvP and almost none in PvE content of the game. Crab pet is on the other hand very good in PvP as it can pin targets for four seconds and is also hard to kill.
What is the best choice for me?
The best choice for pet isn’t probably simple to answer, it depends on your plans PvP or PvE, and your spec of course.
Best pets for PvP
Most hunters in arena use spiders or crabs due to their immobilization abilities. Some hunters still use scorpids but are rarely seen.
PvE pets
Answer here is really simple: wolf, as it will provide you with a considerably highest dps boost, but some hunters still prefer cats even though they are inferior to wolf. Note that for Beast mastery spec you will need to get a special pet which can do more damage, i.e. spirit beast. For leveling purposes a good suggestion would be a bear or boar as they are the best tanks and even the turtle can prove to be excellent. Click here for more on WoW Leveling Guide
