In short, the R4 DS card will let you watch Movies on your NDS, listen to Mp3 music on your NDS as well as play homebrew roms and applications on your NDS console… on your NDS or DSi console. For less than dollars, your Nintendo DS turns into a whole entertainment unit.00

There are some quick and easy tips to follow. While some of these tips may seem obvious, it even took me about a week and a half of using the R4 DS before I came up with some ways to make my life (and game playing) a little bit easier.

1. Store your game and other files in a directory on your MicroSD memory card. Create a GAME folder and put all of your GAMES into this folder. You’ll have a much easier time when you are looking for games. It makes navigating the menu much easier, and all of your save game files will also be origanized by default.

2. Store your MP3 Music files and video files in seperate folders too, and in the case of multiple music albums on the memory card, you should make a sub-directory of each album. This is something that is a must for anyone that has a lot of music where all of the songs are labeled TRACK 1, Track 2, etc..MP3 Music, Track 2.MP3, and others, etc….. By putting your files in seperate and different directories, you’ll at least have them organized because you can put all of your MP3 albums in individual directories so you’ll at least know that TRACK-1.MP3 in the music directory is the album that you’re looking for.

3. Save a copy of your game save files on your hard drive once per week or more. Saving your games isn’t something to do because you worry about losing your game saves due to a bad microSD card. It is a guarantee agaist that, but it also means you can always go back to an earlier game save. Moving files on and off the microSD Card is easy. Making sure you keep a backup of your game saves is not. For this reason, I always recommend that you keep a backup of your microSD card files on you desktop in a folder. or a folder somewhere else on you PC. While this one really seems like an obvious hint, you would be surprised to know that most of our technical support emails for the R4 DS deal with how to get back erased or deleted game saves that were not backed up. I recommend doing this at LEAST once a week, more if you play your games more frequently.

4. You don’t want to take out the microSD Card from the R4 DS in the NDS each time you want to add files. Simply push the microSD card with your finger and it will ‘pop out’ of the R4 DS card slot. You can then quickly put it into the included microSD Card reader / writer in order to change games and files or add music or video.

5. This is my final suggestion. And it handles the Micro SD card in the R4DS card slot. When you put the NDS, Nintendo DS lite or Nintendo DSi in your pocket or pick it up. Take a moment to check again as to whether or not the microSD card is in the R4DS card. Make sure that your MicroSD card in the R4 DS Card is snug an secure to avoid any issues with it popping out or getting lost. It’s very rare for the microSD card to pop outon its own… but that does not mean you should not be careful because it can happen. There would be nothing worse than losing your microSD card somewhere, because it popped out and fell on the ground. As you may know, microSD cards are very small, and if you lost one, you’ll have a really tough time finding it, unless you want to get a new one. If you carry your Nintendo DS in a case, then the chances are much smaller that the card will get dislodged from the R4 DS card slot, but it’s better to check on a regular basis anyway. You should do this before you even turn the power on.

The R4 DS is a cartridge that emulates and behaves exactly like an original Nintendo DS cartridge, but with many more features and functions. It also allows you to play MP3 music as well as watch movies on your Nintendo DS. In essence, it turns your Nintendo DS into a full fledge hand held multi media console, allowing you to play games, listen to music, watch movies, read e-books and much more.
