Movie video games are getting better all the time

There’s been official movie video games nearly as long as there have been ways to play video games. Whilst a few of them may have been good, a greater number have been unfortunately lacking in almost every way that made the movies they were based around great in the first place. At the moment, thankfully there is a bumper crop of movie video games out to get into- some of which could well be better than the movies themselves!

First on our list there is the licensed movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This all-action game is remarkably a lot better than the Wolverine movie itself! Developed by Raven Software, the Wolverine game boasts a somewhat different story to the hit Wolverine movie, but it does contain Hugh Jackman’s voice and likeness. The game features all of Wolverine’s attributes, which are put to use in a nice way- in particular his healing factor.

As far as Marvel comics games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is shockingly violent, as you will notice from the battlefield decorated with bloody body parts and other not-so-cute things. Well, Wolverine certainly has claws. Here you can make him use them to their full horrific effect.

Next up there is the brand new video game based on Terminator Salvation, the newest film in the time travel cyborg sci-fi action series. Where the third film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game version were terrible, this looks to be going in tandem with the brave new direction of the new movie and is superb to look at and play. Here’s another example of how movie video games are getting better a huge amount lately.

Now thanks to two player co-operative play, the Terminator story is catching up with other contemporary games such as blockbuster Gears of War franchise, allowing for some awesome split-screen action to be had. Pair this with the ingeniously rendered futuritic distopian world that the movie video game happens in, which you can use to your full advantage while playing the game, and you have one powerful prospect for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

The new Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is causing a great big stir. With the revelation that the third Ghostbusters movie is finally going ahead, 20 years after the first Ghostbusters sequel came out, now is a great time to remind yourself of the classic Ghostbusters characters and situations. Let’s face it, that 1st is an absolute classic in every sense of the notion, and finally there is a movie video game that does it justice.

The concept of the new Ghostbusters game was created by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the classic first two Ghostbusters movies, so the game may even be canon to a certain extent. The classic original four Ghostbusters movie characters have been recreated as amazing digital versions of the actors, and the whole game looks great. All of your character’s vital readings are shown on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a similar feel to Dead Space. With all of the iconic creatures appearing in the game, fans will be thrilled when they pick it up for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.

Following on from such a number of mediocre movie video game tie-ins, it seems that the new titles that are being released are being made with much more respect for the original material and also what audiences want out of a movie video game based on their most loved titles. These are some of the best movie video games on the market at the moment, and hopefully they can help you unveil a great new level of appreciation from your favourite films.
