    the HD DVD ROM will play all HD DVDs as well as burn regular dvds and dual layer dvds.

    the Blue-Ray ROM plays blue-ray discs which is a sony special form of high-def dvd

    and the HD DVD-R will only play HD DVDs that are -R type discs.
