You can’t go wrong with Panasonic, Sony or Samsung. Models will be BD35, BDPS350, and BD1500 respectively. If you don’t have a newer receiver, I would suggest using the analog outs on the upgraded models (BD55, BDPS550, BDP2550) to get the best sound quality.
under 400$?
last i heard the cheapest bluray player was a ps3.
i know the cheapest ps3′s out there are 400$.
if you’re into games, or someone in your house is. you should look into this one.
If you have a newer surround system that has Dolby TrueHD capability using HDMI then this is the highest rated one for the price doing a better job than the PS3 upscaling DVDs and is 1 of the only Blu-Ray player that correctly resolves all pulldown cadences.http://astore.amazon.com/ewarehouse-20/detail/B001GAOYCS
It’s big brother is equally good but adds 7.1 analog outs for the HD audio. This means that it decodes HD audio internally and send it out via 8 RCA outputs. This isn’t important unless you have an older home theater receiver with ext. inputs you don’t want to replace yet and want to get HD audio. It’s a little more but still comes in under your budget. http://astore.amazon.com/ewarehouse-20/detail/B001GAOYCI
The PS3 is very good but not ideal if want to integrate with a universal remote control

PS3 is the best all-around player in my opinion. But if you don’t want to watch movies get a Panasonic DMP-BD35, DMP-BD55 or else a Sony BDP-S550. Here’s what cnet.com has to say:
