What is the best inexpensive blu-ray player on the market?
If I’m only interested in good picture and sound quality and upscaling standard dvds. I don’t need Internet content for special features, or streaming video through Netflix and the like. I just want to play movies in HD.
PS3 is really your best bet. It might cost more than the cheapest players, but it’s the best value for the money. If you go with the cheapest players, you’ll drive yourself crazy waiting for the content to load – several minutes, in some cases! The PS3 is very fast and doesn’t crash very often, unlike even the more expensive players that are not advanced enough for the blu-ray disc. Why the player tech can’t keep up with the disc programming is another question.
You should buy a blu-ray disc and pop it into any player you’re considering, just to see how well it can handle it.
If you just want to upscale DVDs, then why not get an upscaling DVD player instead? A Blu-Ray player would be overkill if you don’t plan on watching Blu-Ray discs.
Well most of all your Blu-Ray players will perform the basic functions you listed above and have about the same quality to discernible difference (this is excluding Magnavox, Sanyo and Dynex found at Wal-Mart). But the Samsung BD-P1600 is great player for $120 on Amazon which will quench all your high-def needs. However, if you want bang for your buck the Playstation 3 is unbeatable. Not only does it play games it has some of the fastest load times around and a breeze to update (which you will have to do eventually anyways to play the most recent Blu-Ray disks.) for a little less than twice as much. There is also the Panasonic DMP-BD60, LG BD 370, and the Sony BDP-S360 for around $120 on Amazon as well.
I would buy the Panasonic 60, the Sony 360 or the Samsung 1600. They’re all about the same price. Just check out the looks and consumer reviews to help you make a decision. Also, I recommend you wait a week or so for the appropriate sale (if you’re in the US).
Well surprisingly from what Ive been reading the Sony Playstation 3 is getting all the rave reviews for the money. Read the better magazine reviews from the perfect vision, widescreen review, and sterophile as they much more knowledgeable and review the better equipment.
Yeah, you won’t need to buy one with all the fancy-schmancy stuff on it, that’s for sure. But now-a-days, it seems like even the cheaper models are including the bells and whistles that the more expensive ones have. The Panasonic DMP-BD60 is the cheapest I could find at $129. Check it out here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001V9LA44?ie=UTF8&tag=thebubrocpro-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001V9LA44
The Sony BDP-S360 came in second lowest at $150. Check it out here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001URWAYG?ie=UTF8&tag=thebubrocpro-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001URWAYG
