The PS3 excellent image quality, has very fast load times – some players take an age to load a blu-ray movie to get it ready to play. It is Blu-ray Profile 1.1 compliant and Sony has stated that it will be upgradeable to Blu-ray Profile 2.0.
Cnet.com rates it as the best buy amongst blu-ray players.
I have a PS3 hooked up to my HT via HDMI and the movies and sound are amazing!
Now the games (if you like that sort of thing) when played on a HT setup are also amazing.
Only downside is that the remote is Bluetooth and as such you cannot program today’s universal remotes to control the PS3. Maybe one day
PS3 is the way to go. It will update to all new versions without a problem, unlike other players. It always plays [awesome] games (duh) and has excellent blu-ray playback for a good price. Rumors are that the price will go down to $299 by the end of this year.
I second that. The PS3 can update to new frimware when needed. Works fine as a gaming platform and also upconverts Dvd’s. Price isnt to bad compared to a standalone blueray player.
Unless you want to wait later for players that are compliant with profile 2.0 then by all means get a ps3 now, it is the only current player capable of updating itself to profile 2.0.
while i was looking about for a blu-ray player for myself i came across this blog with lots of info about the technology behind blu-ray and there is a link to a phillips player on there too…
