Buying a blu ray player or a ps3?
I can either buy a Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-Ray Player or a ps3. I only want to use it for blu rays not gaming so does either have superior picture quality? I think they are both at 2.0 firmware or something like that.

The PS3 is superior to the Samsung 1500. They are both profile 2.0, but the PS3 has better hardware and better software. It’s also more flexible and more likely to expand its feature set in the future. If you have WiFi in home you can pair the PS3 with it. This is great for the periodic firmware updates you need to install as well as streaming video, music and pictures from your home PC.
So the PS3 is a much better Blu-ray player, but it costs more.
Buy the blu-ray player, much cheaper and it should work the same if not better than the PS3 for playing blu-rays.
I would go with the PS3. The fact that it is a media center mainly. You will be able to store movies and music or stream them directly from your computer. Which is real nice, you can download a movie via torrent (in any hd quality) or pay net flicks then watch it on your TV. The only work is actually downloading it, because the movie will pop up in your PS3 and you just press play. It works like a "popcorn hour" (look it up) and external hard drive almost.
I pay a site $40 a year and i don’t need cable. The all sports are free with a digital converter box on my TV. And any show, movie, ect i want i can download in 20-40 min TOPS!!! So i watch everything in the past, but when people say "o’ this is on" i usually have multiple series of it, or get it within a reasonable time. I use an xbox jus so ya know. My monthly cable bill is replaced with reorganizing my folders.
Personally i wouldn’t get too gung-ho with the blue ray. They did this awhile back with VHS. They made a higher quality tape/player. It caught on just like Blue-ray did, then DVD’s came out. At lease if you get a PS3 you’ll have something else to market and you wont be out alot of money. Be prepared for the media-less media center.
buy Bly-Ray player better
I would suggest Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Buy blu ray player but check out Panasonic.
Buy a Panasonic BD-60 instead, it is the best player in the market today. Go online to read the reviews by Home Theater magazine who compared the Sony, Samsung and Panasonic Blue Ray disc player in July 2009. The price on the Panasonic player is now $249 at Best Buy.
Hope this will help you.
Buy the Samsung. The PS3 is $300 and not the best blu-ray player on the market anymore.
